Escursioni a Strasbourg - Alsace wine route from Strasbourg
Escursioni a Strasbourg: Savour the best of Alsace with this sensational tour of the wine-producing region where France meets Germany. Enjoy a guided visit to the famous Château Haut-Koenigsbourg, taste Grand Cru wines in a typical cellar and explore the picture-postcard village of Riquewihr, which is romantically known as the Pearl of the Vineyard.
Drive through south from Strasbourg past picturesque landscapes of vineyards and rustic hamlets with German-sounding names that speak of a time when Alsace was among the world’s most hotly disputed pieces of real estate. The first visit is to the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle, which, perched on a rocky spur, has stood guard over the surrounding countryside for nine centuries. The current incarnation dates from the early 1900s, when Kaiser Wilhelm II ordered the restoration of the original castle, which had lain in ruins since the Thirty Years’ War 17th century. Wander this ancient fortress, admiring the great bastion and keep, the Lord’s Residence and Kaiser’s Room and, above all, the fantastic views over vineyards and farmland offered by this remarkable witness to history.
Taste some refreshing Grand Crus in a traditional wine celalr and travel back in time with a visit to Riquewihr, which is famed for its Riesling wines and immaculately preserved medieval architecture. To this day, it looks much like it would have 500 years ago. Half-timbered houses and narrow alleys are the hallmark of a town that appears untouched by modernity. To stroll along cobbled streets like Rue de la Caserne and Rue des Remparts is to travel back in time.
