Escursioni a Vizcaya - Bilbao: The Basque coast is a wild and natural place full of tradition and good gastronomy. Come and discover the oldest Transporter Bridge in the world, the rough coastline and fine sand beaches, the historical and typical Basque fishermen villages, the Biosphere Reserve of Urdaibai, designated by Unesco and the emblematic village of Gernika with the Assembly Hall & the Sacred Tree.
The Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve is an estuary in the Bay of Biscay that covers an area of 220 square kilometres. The hydrographic basin is composed by small streams that join in a large salt marshland bordered by high cliffs. The countryside around it is occupied by meadows, oaks and plantations of Pinus radiata. The coast is covered with woods of Quercus ilex and Arbutus unedo. The flora includes 615 recorded species and fauna 318 species of vertebrates. The area contains remnants from different ages of the human evolution. The Santimamiñe cave with artifacts from the Paleolithic to the Iron Age seems particularly worth mentioning in this respect.
This region's economy relies on metallurgy, fishing, farming, forestry and tourism. Some 45,000 people live within this area, especially in the towns of Bermeo and Gernika.
Gernika is a small town famous for having been bombed by Nazi Germany's Luftwaffe in 1937, as depicted in the painting Guernica by Pablo Picasso.

Departures every Saturday, from July until October. Enjoy and discover the most interesting and unique villages of the province of Biscay; Getxo – Bermeo – Gernika – Lekeitio – Durango.
Hop On/Off freely in each village according to the established time tables and routes. A great opportunity to discover these charming villages in a very flexible format and enjoy a full day excursion along the most beautiful corners of Biscay. Therefore, you can get off at any of the villages you choose along the route according to the table published about villages and timetables. Once you stop at any town, you could pickup THE TOURISTIC BUS in the same place you got off in order to resume the route in the published schedule. That way you could get on and get off the BUS in any of the towns included in the route within a total of 3 villages (taking the first journey from Bilbao at 08.30 h. ) In case of doing the journey at 10.00 h. from Bilbao you can make the same route but with stop at maximum 2 villages.
All published schedules route allow 1.30h stopover in each village, except the schedule that matches lunchtime because it is expected to have 3.30 hours available for having lunch in the village you choose.
So, the only thing you have to decide before starting the route and when you book your ticket, is the departure time. . . and from there you can get on and get off the bus in any of the towns you choose!
Therefore, you can decide your departure time, the number of towns where you will stop and visit, the following schedules route and therefore the end time of it.

Escursioni a Vizcaya - Bilbao - From the Mountains to the Sea
Escursioni a Vizcaya - Bilbao: Departure from Bilbao towards Vitoria. Once we arrive to the Capital city of the Basque country, we will enjoy a guided walking tour through the center to discover the most emblematic corners of the city: the new cathedral, the Basque parliament, the Virgen Blanca square, the town hall, the arches, the square Machete, the church of san Miguel, etc.
Later we follow the route to Salinas de Añana, one of the most surprising corners of the Basque Country. Here, we will enjoy an interesting guided tour to learn the history, architecture, archeology and biodiversity of the salt. We follow the route to Orduña, ancient customs, and start a guided visit to this historical village. Also, Lunch included at a typical restaurant located in the medieval village of Balmaseda.
After lunch, we follow the route through the Valley of Ayala and the mining area of Bizkaia to reach the coast: Santurtzi and Portugalete. From here we cross the Transporter Bridge Bizkaia (world heritage by UNESCO) to reach Getxo and then finish back in Bilbao.

The permanent collection of this museum includes works by the most famous artists of the past four decades of this century; they are integrated by works lent by the Salomón R. Guggenheim Foundation, including significant examples of pop art, minimalism, arte povera, conceptual art, abstract expressionism, etc. This is also the case with the special programmes promoted by the foundation. Moreover, several rooms in the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao are dedicated to monographic installations while others house works for a specific location, namely expressly commissioned for this museum. Contemporary Basque and Spanish art are also represented by a selection of works by the best artists who, on the whole, provide a detailed impression of the current trends in their art.
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was inaugurated in 1997 by King Juan Carlos I of Spain. Built alongside the Nervion River, this is one of several museums belonging to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The building is one of the most admired works of contemporary architecture and represents one of those rare subjects on which critics, academics, and the general public all are unanimous.

Your sightseeing water tour starts at the Ramon de la Sota wharf, right next to the river and close to the Maritime Museum. Before we make a splash in the water, you’ll get a lesson on the basics of canoeing and then it’s time to get into your wetsuit and life jacket. Let the instructor show you the way and let the gentle rocks of the water lull you into a sense of peacefulness and tranquillity with the city hustle and bustle so distant and untouchable. You can choose a single or double canoe and whether you’re going it alone or with a partner, you’ll see the best of Bilbao from a different perspective. As you paddle around the estuary that carves its way around the city, soon the glittering façade of the giant Guggenheim Museum will come into view. One of the top sights in Bilbao, from the canoe you’ll get uninterrupted views across to the space age building that helped put the city on the map and into the tourist spotlight. Cross under the Zubizuri footbridge, which appears like a suspended harp over the water, before reaching the Arriaga Theatre where we’ll turn around and make our way back to the starting point.

Escursioni a Vizcaya - Bilbao: The famous Rioja wine area is a must for wine lovers. You will be able to discover and learn about this unique and privileged region located in the south of the Basque country. You will visit the unique medieval village of Laguardia and the Capital city of the Basque country, Vitoria. We will also visit a traditional wine cellar to find out about their secrets.
Rioja is a region of Spain where the production of wine yields excellent results. It has achieved Denominación de Origen Calificada (Qualified designation of origin). Rioja wines are made from grapes coming from this area, but also from Navarre and the province of Álava. Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa are the three zones in which Rioja gets divided.
Rioja red wines are classified into four categories: Rioja, Rioja Crianza, Rioja Reserva and Rioja Gran Reserva. Rioja is the youngest type of wine with less than a year in an oak barrel. Crianza wines are aged at least two years (at least one of them in oak). Reserva wines are aged at least three years (at least one of them in oak). Finally, Rioja Gran Reserva wines are aged at least two years in oak plus three years in bottle.
