Camuy Caves and Arecibo Observatory - Ile de Porto Rico
Camuy Caves and Arecibo Observatory: Descend into the depths of one of the world’s most dramatic cave systems in this full day trip from San Juan. The Rio Camuy Cave Park is a massive network of natural limestone caves and underground waterways carved out by the third-largest underground river in the world. Enjoy a safe guided tour around one of the most impressive natural wonders to be found in Puerto Rico.
After being picked up from your hotel early in the morning we’ll drive out of San Juan, heading north-westwards through rolling farmland and lush tropical landscapes. Our destination is the Rio Camuy Cave Park, surely one of the most massive and dramatic cave systems in the world. The 268-acre park built around the cave system features tours of some of the caves and sinkholes, and is one of the most popular natural attractions in Puerto Rico.
The cave system itself is over 45 million years old, but since then nature and eons of trickling water have done a magnificent job. You’ll find bottomless sinkholes and cathedral-like caverns, towering ceilings adorned with weird and wonderful rock formations and mushroom-like mounds of stalagmites. The cave system was hollowed out over millions of years by the thundering River Camuy and even today it continues to rush from mile upon mile of uncharted channels. A day spent here is a truly unforgettable experience for all the family.
