Comprising 9 volcanic islands, the remote archipelago of the Azores are set like jewels in the sparkling Atlantic Ocean, approximately 1500km from the Portuguese coast. These little gems offer a paradisiacal land full of natural splendour surrounded by the never-ending blue of the Atlantic Ocean. The largest of these 9 islands is San Miguel where you can observe how the island’s volcanic activity formed the island’s dramatic scenery. With its incredible volcanic scenery, beautiful lakes and lush nature there is already so much to see on the Azorean island of San Miguel.
On this engrossing journey back in time you will discover the southeast coast of this island of natural beauty and understand the authentic lives of the ancient people living on this island. Let yourself be driven around in a carriage whilst visiting traditional villages such as Ginetes, Sete Cidades and Mosteiros among others. Appreciate and learn how bread was made in the olden days and have a go yourself, attempt milking a cow and try a hand at working the land if you choose to. You will be taught about how to grow crops and plants and how tobacco was grown in the past. At lunchtime, you will have the chance to sample delicious local dishes and regional products. This is a truly fascinating day out for all the family and an unparalleled opportunity to participate in the true culture of this little-known group of islands and people.
