Half Day Kuching City And River Tour: Travel back in time with this half-day tour of Kuching that takes in all of the city’ the main sights from land and water. As well as being the perfect introduction to the capital of Sarawak, it also has a fascinating one-hour pontoon boat river cruise that allows you to enjoy a different perspective of the city.
The tour includes Chinatown, the emblematic Cat Statue (Kuching means ‘cat’ in Malay), the colourful Tua Pek Kong Temple and its seven-storey pagoda, the Civic Centre Viewing Platform and the prestigious Sarawak Museum. Across river, visit the popular Cat Museum, passing the magnificent State Mosque and the Astana, the former residence of the White Rajahs (the hereditary Brooke family, which ruled Sarawak for more than a century). Return via the golden-domed City Mosque and proceed on foot through Old Kuching, visiting the vibrant Central Markets with spice dealers and textile shops. See the legacy of the White Rajah era at the Pavilion, the Square Tower, the Court House, the Charles Brooke Monument and the Post Office.
Share the river with brightly painted water taxis (known as tambangs) as the cruise boat glides past quaint villages, the City Mosque, the Astana, Fort Margherita and the waterfront, stopping at an Orchid Garden.
