Excursiones en Calafate: A bordo de un confortable vehículo partimos desde los hoteles para recorrer los principales puntos de interés de la localidad. El guía a cargo de la excursión, nos transportará con su relato hacia los inicios de la vida en este maravilloso territorio, desde la formación de la Cordillera de Los Andes hasta el surgimiento de la población de la localidad, y el desarrollo de la vida de los primeros habitantes. Luego de recorrer el casco antiguo del pueblo, las casas de los primeros pobladores y el paseo costero nos dirigiremos hacia las Cuevas de Walichu, ubicadas a escasos 7 Km. de la localidad, donde será posible observar pinturas rupestres originales y reproducciones de otras halladas en otros puntos de la provincia. La visita a las cuevas comienza con una caminata de aproximadamente 500mts bordeando la costa del Lago Argentino. Desde aquí realizaremos avistaje de flora y fauna típica de la estepa patagónica, veremos una réplica de los tradicionales enterratorios tehuelches y luego nos adentraremos en las cuevas donde se encuentran las muestras pictóricas. En el último tramo veremos una réplica de un Kau -típica vivienda de las poblaciones nativas- desde alli nos dirigiremos a la confitería donde haremos un break para disfrutar de una maravillosa vista del lago antes de seguir nuestro recorrido. Para entender de una manera más acabada el proceso que nos relatan, la visita al Centro de Interpretación Histórica de Calafate, constituye una parada obligada en el recorrido. El didáctico recorrido está estratégicamente pensado para introducirnos en la historia de la Patagonia austral desde su misma formación. A través de líneas del tiempo expresadas en paneles escritos en español e inglés, láminas con dibujos y fotografías, gigantografías, exhibición de objetos, utensilios y réplicas de elementos, además de los relatos sonoros que acompañan el itinerario, atravesamos catorce mil años de historia humana y ambiental. Los procesos glaciarios y las transformaciones ecológicas del pleistoceno, la megafauna y el arte rupestre reflejan fielmente la Patagonia prehistórica. El surgimiento y la consolidación de la cultura tehuelche y los primeros encuentros con los colonizadores, el auge de la producción ovina y las grandes estancias, el conflicto laboral y las huelgas patagónicas con sus trágicos desenlaces, nos conducen hasta los orígenes de la ciudad de El Calafate. This is an alternative only suitable for the most adventurous and, obviously, for those who are physically fit, as it requires a long ice trek through several rocky areas, as well as the use of harnesses.
This excursion leaves from Bajo de las sombras Port (Under the Shadows) early in the morning to board a craft that crosses the Rico Arm of Lake Argentino. After sailing for 15 minutes you will reach the shore where you will disembark and meet the mountain guides who will escort the group towards the place where the crampons (special metal spikes worn on boots for traction) are selected.
Then a hike begins to approach the glacier from the southern moraine until a spectacular vantage point is reached, an entrance gate to heaven. This is where the true adventure begins. Having fastened their crampons and put on their harnesses, adventurers will begin to explore the glacier from a different perspective. Here they will discover blue lagoons, deep and alarming cracks, huge drains and caves.
Dimensions become almost unreal as they find themselves inside the core of the Perito Moreno, one of the most fascinating glaciers in the world. Along with expert guides who explain the characteristics of the ice and its surroundings, the inside of the glacier is toured for over 4 hours. A picnic is organized on the ice and visitors will have the chance to sit down and recover their energy. The surrealist scenery is astonishing.

After we arrive at El Chalten and we go to the Eco Camp to have lunch, we will depart towards Bahía Túnel Port, where we will get on a ship to view the Viedma Glacier, the largest glacier as compared with over 300 glaciers inside the National Park, and the largest glacier in Argentina.
While sailing for 2 hours and 30 minutes, we will have a unique experience: enjoying the blue ice walls of the Viedma Glacier, which are 40 metres high. We sail through Viedma Lake towards the front of the glacier, from where we can see the peak of the Huemul Mount. This Glacial Lake is about 1100 square kilometers.
By the end of the tour, our bus will be waiting to return to El Calafate.

We will pass by the edge of the main body of Argentino Lake and move on towards the branch called Rico. We will stop at the entrance of the National Park in order to pay the admission fee and, once inside the park, we will go to “Curva de los Suspiros” (“Curve of Sighs”), where we will get off the vehicle in order to see the Perito Moreno Glacier for the first time. Further on, we will stop at the Muelle Bajo las Sombras (Pier Under the Shadows) so that those who are willing to go sailing can get closer to the southern wall of the Glacier (optional). Then we will move on to the front catwalks of the glacier, where we will watch it from different balconies and enjoy our free time by appreciating the various detachments. Return to El Calafate.

We will pick you up around 7:30am and will undertake the journey of 50 Km to Punta Bandera, where the boat departs at 9 o’clock. We will pass by the edge of the main body of Argentino Lake and move on towards Punta Bandera Port, where, after paying the Park admission fee, we will get on a modern catamaran.
The first part of the excursion is in the northern arm of Lake Argentino across the Boca del Diablo, the narrowest part of the lake, then you will go to the Upsala channel and the Spegazzini channel where you will be able to see, at the end of each channel, the respective glaciers.
The navigation runs between spectacular icebergs of immense size and varied forms. From the boat you will see, among others, the Upsala and the Spegazzini glaciers. We will return to the port and then go to El Calafate by a land transportation vehicle.

Perito Moreno Glacier minitrekking tour.
Departing from your El Calafate hotel, you'll head to the Bajo de las Sombras (Under the Shadows) port. After a quick 20-minute sail, you'll reach the opposite shore and the base of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Here, the guides will help you pick out a crampon, special metal spikes worn on your boots for traction. Then, your adventure begins as you hike along the Rico Arm to reach the glacier.
With your crampons fastened, head out for the real adventure as you embark on a 1.5 hour walk across the glacier. Your guide will be there to tell you about the famous Perito Moreno Glacier while trekking.
Finish up your adventure as you cross the Rico Arm again, which leads you to a footbridge located in front of the glacier for one last glance at the beautiful glacier. Then, make your way back to the road that cuts between the forest of lengas and the pier. Board a bus that will take you to the glacier's viewpoint and footbridges, where you have an hour to enjoy before heading back to your hotel.

Relax on the 28-mile (45-kilometer) journey to the port at Punta Bandera, where your three-hour boat cruise departs. Excursiones en Calafate - Full Day El Chalten - Desert Lake
Excursiones en Calafate: Our day starts as we depart from El Calafate and head along the famous Route 40. This iconic highway goes along the Argentino Lake up to the La Leona River. Passing the 'Cañadón La Leona' we will arrive to the ancient route hotel "La Leona". It is here where you will be able to have a break for coffee and cakes.
Once the break is over we will continue along the Lake Viedma, from here we can take in the magical views of glaciers, hidden lakes and the glory that is Mount Fitz Roy. After several photos stops we will then arrive to Andean village El Chalten, also known as the 'The Capital of the Trekking'. As soon as we arrive we will briefly visit the Interpretation Centre and then the group will be divided according their chosen option at our base - The Pudu Lodge.
We combine a one-hour trek with a 4x4 trip across the valley of De las Vueltas river. Enjoy a wide panoramic view of the Andes range. The course of De Las Vueltas river is often one of the preferred route for condors in their low flight East-West. If you are lucky you will be able to see them closely.
From here we will visit the cascades of De Las Vueltas river and the Lake of the Desert, hidden amongst lush forests amid a paradise of ancient trees, glaciers and streams. After which we will trek to the Huemul Lagoon and Glacier (optional) perched on the slopes of Mount Vespignani. The path starts at Lake of the Desert and goes up the left hand side of a stream that is coming down from Huemul Lagoon. It takes about 45 minutes to climb the 2km to the lagoon. On the way we will get some great views of the valley below and Mount Fitz Roy. Around 17:30 pm we will return with the rest of the group to the base to enjoy a delicious hot chocolate at Pudu Lodge.

Excursiones en Calafate: Our day starts as we depart from El Calafate and head along the famous Route 40. This iconic highway goes along the Argentino Lake up to the La Leona River. Passing the 'Cañadón La Leona' we will arrive to the ancient route hotel "La Leona". It is here where you will be able to have a break for coffee and cakes.
Once the break is over we will continue along the Lake Viedma, from here we can take in the magical views of glaciers, hidden lakes and the glory that is Mount Fitz Roy. After several photos stops we will then arrive to Andean village El Chalten, also known as the The Capital of the Trekking'. As soon as we arrive we will briefly visit the Interpretation Centre and then the group will be divided according their chosen option at our base - The Pudu Lodge.
We will advise you several options according to your physical condition and provide you of a map and a packed box to carry in your backpack. This is perfect for the independent traveler; the clearly-marked tracks can make anyone feel like an expert. Around 17:30 pm we will return with the rest of the group to the base to enjoy a delicious hot chocolate at Pudu Lodge.

We will provide you with ground transportation to the Port of Bahia Tunnel. Here we will sail along the Viedma lake to the beautiful Viedma Glacier, which is the largest glacier in the National Park! Once we arrive at the glacier we will begin the trek, spending about 2.5 hours exploring the ice, its crevasses and caves. You will be accompanied by an expert mountain guide (certified by the Argentine Association of Mountain Guides and the Admin. of National Parks). This is recommended for travelers in a good physical condition. The excursion includes crampons, on-board snack, and box lunch.

Excursiones en Calafate - Full Day Torres del Paine Tour
Excursiones en Calafate: Join us for a full day of adventure through Patagonia. We begin our journey by crossing the Patagonian Steppe in the desert from north to south until we arrive at the "Cancha Carrera" border to enter Chile. Moving our way further south we will arrive at the "Torres del Paine" National Park, meaning the "Blue Towers" in the Tehuelche language.
This is when the real adventure begins. Our day is split between hiking and being aboard our exclusive Overland 4x4 trucks. The exclusivity of this tour, and the hundreds of hiking paths in the area, enables us to customize your treks to your physical capabilities. This not only aides in your safety but you can be satisfied in knowing that your experience will be a unique one. Our guides are experts and know exactly how to get the best view points for every level of hiker.
There will be two breaks, one for lunch and the other for an afternoon snack. If the weather is nice these will be taken outside, but if not, there are plenty of shelters around in which we can regain our energy. After our afternoon snack we will start to make our way back. Please keep in mind that everything in Patagonia is weather permitting and is dependent on the physical capabilities of the group. Excursiones en Calafate - Full Day Tour to Upsala Glacier and Estancia Cristina with Lunch
Excursiones en Calafate: Once you have been picked up at your hotel you will be able to enjoy the views of the Patagonian Steppe (Desert) and Argentine Lake as we make our way to the port of Calafate. We will sail among icebergs and stunning Patagonian scenery aboard a luxurious and modern boat. It is on this journey that we will have the opportunity (if we have good weather) to see the western front of the Upsala glacier which is the second longest glacier in South America. The journey continues through the Cristina Canal and ending at Estancia Cristina just before noon.
While here you have the option to taste the unique regional cuisine of Estancia such as the traditional Patagonian lamb (not included in the price). After your free time we will take a guided walk up to Caterina River, a popular fishing spot for typical Patagonian trout. The tour will follow to the local Chapel, around the Estancia and the historical Gaucho museum.
After spending the afternoon discovering the beauty of the Estancia, we will return to Punta Bandera by boat and then back to Calafate.

Excursiones en Calafate - Glaciers National Park and boat tour
Excursiones en Calafate: Leaving from Calafate we take the provincial route Nº11 that, during the first 40 km, it runs besides the main body of the Argentino Lake. In this part of the tour we enjoy panoramic views of the lake and the stepperian landscape. Once in Los Glaciares National Park, we drive through the Magallanic forest up to the end of the road, where we find the balconies and walkways. The idea of this excursion is to spend some time walking around the balconies, enjoying the different views of the glacier and having your lunch. For having lunch you have access to a restaurant or snack bar (for fast food). After lunch you will board on the catamaran to navigate the Rico Arm, which lets you appreciate the icebergs from the Perito Moreno Glacier ice walls. The boat paces at a reasonable distance from the glacier allowing to appreciate the fallings of ice blocks from the ice wall.
It takes one hour and gives the possibility to see a completely different view of unbelievable formations and colours of the Glacier.

Excursiones en Calafate - Ice Rivers Sailing Tour
Excursiones en Calafate: We will pick you up around 7:30am and will undertake the journey of 50 Km to Punta Bandera, where the boat departs at 9 o’clock. We will pass by the edge of the main body of Argentino Lake and move on towards Punta Bandera Port, where, after paying the Park admission fee, we will get on a modern catamaran.
The first part of the excursion is in the northern arm of Lake Argentino across the Boca del Diablo, the narrowest part of the lake, then you will go to the Upsala channel and the Spegazzini channel where you will be able to see, at the end of each channel, the respective glaciers.
The navigation runs between spectacular icebergs of immense size and varied forms. From the boat you will see, among others, the Upsala and the Spegazzini glaciers. We will return to the port and then go to El Calafate by a land transportation vehicle.

Excursiones en Calafate: Departing from Bajo de la Sombra Port, we will arrive at the world-famous Perito Moreno Glacier approximately 5 miles from our departure point. Upon arrival, enjoy a 40-minute walk across the Rico Arm to reach the glacier. We will then be given crampons (special metal spikes worn on boots for traction). Then the adventure really begins with a fascinating 2 hour walk across the glacier.
At the end of the walk, we will be offered to toast to our adventure with a glass of whiskey paired with ice from the glacier. Once finished we will make our way back on a road that cuts between a forest of lengas and the pier. Crossing the Rico Arm again, we will be lead to the footbridge in front of the glacier. For one last glance at the Perito Moreno Glacier.

After lunch (own expense), take a guided tour to Costumbrista Museum (former Shearing Shed) and the take the guided hike to Caterina River and the Chapel, and walk around the buildings of the Country Estate. Then we will arrive to the Port of the Cruz at Punta Bandera where we will take the boat at 9am. After one hour and forty five minutes of navigation we will enjoy the first image of the Glacier and then afterwards we we will see more.
We will continue on the trip where we will see the Spegazzini Canal and Spegazzini Glacier. There is an option to have lunch on board or bring your own lunch.

Excursion to Glaciers National Park
After breakfast, we will start our guided tour along Route 11 towards Los Glaciares National Park. We will pass by the edge of the main body of Argentino Lake and move on towards the branch called Rico. We will stop at the entrance of the National Park in order to pay the admission fee and, once inside the park, we will go to “Curva de los Suspiros” (“Curve of Sighs”), where we will get off the vehicle in order to see the Perito Moreno Glacier for the first time.
Further on, we will stop at the Muelle Bajo las Sombras (Pier Under the Shadows) so that those who are willing to go sailing can get closer to the southern wall of the Glacier (optional). Then we will move on to the front catwalks of the glacier, where we will watch it from different balconies and enjoy our free time by appreciating the various detachments. Return to El Calafate.
