This former school served as a Khmer Rouge torture centre, and is a poignant reminder of the sheer brutality of what happened in this impoverished country. Then head out of the city to the Choueng Ek Memorial, where a pagoda made up of thousands of human skulls marks the site of one of the notorious Killing Fields. This shocking memorial brings home the inhumanity of the Khmer Rouge regime.
