Excursions in Costa Brava & Costa Barcelona-Maresme - Dali's Word
Excursions in Costa Brava & Costa Barcelona-Maresme: The work of Salvador Dali can be found in the world’s greatest museums from the Metropolitan in New York to the Vatican. However if you really want to get to know the universe of the great painter in depth then you have to travel to Catalonia. In the north eastern region known as the Ampurdà, you can visit two sites of great importance in the life of the artist who was born in the area and spent much of his life here – the Dali Theatre-Museum and the Gala Dali Castle. These two sites hold the key to the interpretation of the work and the worlds – both real and imaginary – in which Dali lived, painted, loved and dreamed. The first, designed by the artist himself, is itself a great surrealistic work of art and contains a wide variety of works describing Dalí’s artistic trajectory from his first surrealist works up to his later creations. The Dali Theatre-Museum occupies the building of the old Municipal Theatre, destroyed at the end of the Spanish Civil War. Dali decided to build a museum from the ruins. The nearby Gala Dali castle at Púbil is a mediaeval building set around a high narrow patio surrounded by elegant French-influenced gardens where Dali materialised almost superhuman creative efforts inspired by one person, his wife and muse, Gala. This excursion cannot be missed by anyone wishing to understand the artist through his masterpieces.

Excursions in Costa Brava & Costa Barcelona-Maresme - Hard Rock Cafe Barcelona
Excursions in Costa Brava & Costa Barcelona-Maresme: Visit the Hard Rock Cafe Barcelona and feast on the best burgers in town while admiring the mesmerising memorabilia collection with items from legends such as Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and stars like Shakira and Madonna. So after a long day's promenade on Las Ramblas, ‘ramble on’ over to the Hard Rock for a rockin' good time!
Films, cars, planets and meteorites have been named after Barcelona as have bands and, of course, Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé's hit song. There’s no doubt that on top of being one of the most vibrant, exciting and sophisticated cities in Europe, Barcelona is also a rock ‘n’ roll Mecca .
Like all great revolutions, the Hard Rock Cafe wasn’t meant to succeed. It was 1971 and as the Swinging Sixties had given way to the Super Seventies, fashions and tastes were changing. Two hungry young Americans were in London and couldn’t find a decent place to eat a burger… so they opened up a joint. Their landlord didn’t think it would last and gave them just a six-month lease. Four decades later, there are almost 200 Hard Rock Cafes in more than 50 countries worldwide .
The first piece of memorabilia came, fittingly, by chance in ‘79 when Eric Clapton asked to hang his guitar over his favourite bar stool and mark his spot. Today, the rock 'n' roll collection has more than 74,000 pieces and is the largest of its kind. By 1982, the Hard Rock Cafe had gone global and the rest, as they say, is history (and is still being written)! Vinyl Menu:

Excursions in Costa Brava & Costa Barcelona-Maresme - Ticket La Pedrera - Casa Mila
Excursions in Costa Brava & Costa Barcelona-Maresme: Casa Milà and Casa Batllo are two of visionary architect Antoni Gaudi's most striking buildings. Built in close proximity to each other on Barcelona's classy Passeig de Gracia, both buildings have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. On this fascinating tour you will learn all about Gaudi's use of symbolism and metaphor in these two apartment blocks and explore their fascinating interiors.
Casa Milà, popularly known as ‘La Pedrera’, was built between 1906 and 1912 and is one of Gaudi's most ambitious works. The Casa Milà was ahead of its times when it was built and has lost none of its avant garde character since then. The architect’s great creative freedom and imaginative ornamental designs are visible in every detail, from the wrought iron balconies, the painted frescoes and the roof terrace, known as the garden of warriors with its famous chimney stacks, bearing a resemblance to helmeted warriors. Gaudi was initially inspired by certain great baroque works but over time developed structural shapes and volumes devoid of rational rigidity or any classic premise and the whole building was built around the symbolism of the ship of life.
A whole world of surprises and refined architectural details is waiting for you behind the striking modernist façade of Casa Batlló. Beat the queues and experience the full splendour of this amazing museum at your own pace with an audio-guide and map. So put on your headphones and learn all about this fascinating building. The museum has been laid out into five distinct areas and your audio-guide will take you around each one, pointing out the highlights and details as you go. Visit the Noble Floor with its great views down over the sophisticated Passeig de Gracia. Explore the vast loft, once the Batllo family's laundry and storeroom and then step out on to the roof terrace, built to resemble a dragon's back with its amazing chimneys.
