Andrew’s Descent is the most renowned street in Kiev that runs ribbon-like connecting Zamkova Hill to Podil, and is visited by many tourists on a daily basis. Your knowledgeable and friendly guide will regale you with its history from a by-gone era and will take you to its most famous landmark: Andrew’s Church, built between the 12th and 13th century. En-route, its splendid colours and brightness will impress your senses, and you’ll discover why this street is not only rich in colour, but also history.
During the tour, we also go to two museums that help to bring its history to life. The Bulgakov Museum is a literary memorial to writer Mikhail Bulgakov exhibiting authentic objects reflecting the atmosphere in which he wrote his most famous book, The White Guard. One Street Museum is a true echo of past centuries. Old paintings, photographs and objects make this a charming and informative experience of a by-gone era.

Kiev Excursions & Tours: St. Sophia's Cathedral (1037) is the most vivid example of the Old Rus architecture and monumental art for this place. It was built and decorated when the state of Kyiv Rus was living through the peak of its prosperity. Here grand princes were crowned and buried, formal ceremonies and receptions of envoys were held, and the first known library in ancient Rus and the first school for boys and girls were founded by Yaroslav the Wise. The Cathedral was known as a seat of Kiev Metropolitan. The interior has survived from the 11th century and there have been practically no alterations. Mosaics and frescos of the 11th century, made with unique technology, depict Scriptural scenes, individual figures of Church Fathers, Apostles, warriors and maidens, and are of a great value.

Kiev Excursions & Tours - Visit to the Jewish quarter of Kiev
Kiev Excursions & Tours: This tour is a great option to explore the history of the Jewish community in Kiev, as well as to discover the names of the great Jewish people that have contributed to the history of the city.
During first part of the tour you will visit the Jewish quarter, enter the main synagogue and see some monuments dedicated to famous Jewish people. The history of Kiev dates back many centuries, and is inseparable from the history of the local Jewish community, whose origin dates to the time of the pre-Christian Rus. There is a dispute among scholars about the starting point of the Jews of Kiev. However, nobody would dispute the actual fact of the existence of a very old Jewish community in the city.
Second part of the tour is a visit of Babiy Yar : the monument reflects the tragic sadness of this time in history. September 1941 saw the Nazi army move into the city of Kiev. For days bombs exploded in building in the centre of Kiev that had been occupied by the German army, Nazi soldiers and civilians were killed and injured. By the time the bombings stopped at the end of September the German Army already had a plan for retaliation. The German soldiers posted a notice all over Kiev which read: All Jews living in the City Of Kiev are to report by 8am on the morning of Monday September 29th at the corner of Melnikovsky & Dokhturov Streets. They are to take with them documents money & valuables as well as warm clothes. Any Jews not carrying out this instruction and are found elsewhere will be shot. Any civilian entering flats evacuated by the Jews and stealing property will be shot. 33000 Jews lost their lives during the genocide that occurred at Babi Yar.

Collection of the National Art Museum of Ukraine is the most extensive and complete collection of the native Ukrainian art in the world. There are masterpieces of Ukrainian painting, sculpture and graphics created in the period of fifteen centuries - from the times of Kievan Rus until the nowadays. The works of all masters related to Ukraine can be found in the museum collection. There are beautiful pieces of decorative and pictorial art, icons and old parsuna style portraits, works of T. Shevchenko, N. Pimonenko, G. Narbut, A. Murashko, V. Krichevsky and many others. In the museum there is one of the best collections of icons in Ukraine. The gem of the collection is the 12th century polychromic wooden relief called "St. George with scenes from his life". There you can see the combination of Byzantine and Romanesque motifs. There are beautiful 14th - 16th centuries icons from Western Ukraine in the collection too. Russian Art Museum There is the largest collection of Russian paintings, drawings and sculptures in Ukraine. The museum collection is based on the private collections of Kiev patrons of arts. The members of Tereshchenko family (they were well known Ukrainian sugar kings) were the most known patrons of arts in Kiev. There are many paintings of famous Russian artists P. Fedotov, I. Shishkin, I. Kramskoy, N. Yaroshenko, I. Repin, V. Vasnetsov, V. Polenov, M. Vrubel, V. Vereshchagin that were donated to the museum by Tereschenko family. Later some paintings by A. Arkhipov, A. Rylov, N. Roerich, K. Somov were donated too.

Kiev Excursions & Tours: Anybody approaching Kiev by air, train or car can immediately spot the Motherland monument that stands proud over the city skyline. With this tour you’ll be taken to two places in Kiev that immerse you into the history of Ukraine during the Second World War: Museum of the Great Patriotic War and Glory Park.
We take you to one of the largest museums in Ukraine in terms of size and importance, where over 300 thousand exhibits tell the story of how Ukraine contributed to the victory over Nazism, as well as other exhibits named Tragedy and Valor of Afghanistan and Wars on Foreign Soil. It was established in commemoration on the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s liberation from Nazism in the former Klovskly Palace, and up until today has attracted 24 million visitors and counting. Get up close to the imposing Motherland monument made out of stainless steel that stands a total of 102 metres high before the tour takes you to Glory Park; a memorial complex located on the slope of the Dnieper, from where glorious views of the city can be seen. The Glory obelisk takes central stage and as you walk through the park you’ll be absorbed even further into history.

The museum boasts a 40,000 strong collection of ethnographic objects in an open air exhibition split into two parts: architecture and life in a Ukrainian village before the Revolution, and architecture and life in a socialist village. Costumes, embroidery, glassware and paintings, amongst many other objects, bring the village to life and you’ll see with your own eyes how people lived in these rural houses brought to the museum from all over Ukraine.
