Kiev Excursions & Tours: Discover what life was really like in a Ukrainian village before the Revolution and during Soviet Ukraine. Real life exhibitions and over 200 structures stand proud in 150 hectares of picturesque landscape to give visitors to Pirogovo village an insight into folk history, architecture and lifestyle.
The museum boasts a 40,000 strong collection of ethnographic objects in an open air exhibition split into two parts: architecture and life in a Ukrainian village before the Revolution, and architecture and life in a socialist village. Costumes, embroidery, glassware and paintings, amongst many other objects, bring the village to life and you’ll see with your own eyes how people lived in these rural houses brought to the museum from all over Ukraine. Be impressed by the wooden churches, with the oldest dating back to 1742, as well as the collection of windmills at the top of the hill that form the central focal point of the museum. Learn about how many century old folk traditions were altered during Soviet Ukraine, but also how many continued to be valued.
The Pirogovo National Open Air Museum is located on the outskirts of Kiev and you can choose whether you are taken there and back by minibus, standard car or executive car. Take the worries out of navigating your way around the city into the hands of your chauffeur and guide. They’ll be on hand to answer any questions you may have and to make the most out of your time in Kiev. Meeting/pick-up point: Pick up at hotel.
