Bangkok Excursions & Tours - Evening Thai boxing match
Bangkok Excursions & Tours: A ringside seat awaits you to see Thai boxing, the country’s national sport. Watch as the boxers engage in a battle of wits, using nearly every part of their body. This ruthless combat is called Muay Thai, ‘the art of eight limbs, ’ since both boxers are able to make contact through punches, kicks, elbow and knee strikes.
This full-contact nature of the sport seems to clash with the reputation of Thais as gentle and peaceful. Theories abound about its origins but many experts believe the Thai people developed this hand-to-hand combat skill to battle constant invaders. King Naresuan in the 16th century had a keen interest in Muay Thai as a sport and battlefield tactic. He trained his own soldiers in this martial art and its popularity soared.
Soon, Thai people from all walks of life were training in Muay Thai or watching bouts during festivals and even outside temples. However, it remained dangerous since the boxers fought with only hemp bound around their fists and forearms. Occasional deaths prompted the use of boxing gloves, rings and referees in the early 20th century. international rules now govern the sport.
You will have the rare opportiunity to see the incredible jostling of Thai boxers who proudly train in this ancient martial art and travel the country to show off their skills. From your ringside seat you can observe first-hand the flexibility, strategy and sheer force of these fearless warriors. The match is a must-see for sports, culture and history aficionados.

Later we will stop off at a restaurant for an International Buffet Lunch before continuing our programme. To round off the tour, we call in at a local lapidary factory and showroom where you will be able to get locally made jewelry, handicrafts and silk at competitive prices.

Leave the hustle and bustle of Bangkok behind to experience two of Thailand’s most interesting and historic sites. First head to the Floating Market of Damern Saduak and look on in amazement as local vendors peddle their merchandise from their boats. Then proceed to the town of Kanchanaburi where you'll see the world renowned bridge on the River Kwai, built during World War II by prisoners of war and immortalized by Pierrre Boulle’s novel and David Lean’s film. Here you will visit the moving cemetery of Allied soldiers, home to 9,000 graves of prisoners of war who died whilst building the bridge and constructing the notorious "Death Railway”. You will also visit the JEATH museum (which stands for Japan, England, America/Australia, Thailand and Holland) to take yourself back in time to the harrowing era of the 2nd World War and the stories of thousands of prisoners taken captive in the thick Asian jungle before heading back to Bangkok.
Make the scenic journey to the Damnern Saduak district, just over 100 kilometres outside the capital, and witness the sights, sounds and aromas of one of Thailand’s most vibrant and captivating spectacles. A spectacular mix of colours, cultures and canoes, you cannot help but be enthralled by the seemingly chaotic canals, jammed full of local vendors conducting business from within their boats.
