Arequipa Excursions & Tours: Tour of the historic center of Arequipa, built with local ''sillar'' stone, a pale volcanic rock, affording Arequipa its glorious architecture and its appropriate nickname, ''the White City''. Visit the San Lazaro district, located five blocks from the Plaza de Armas of Arequipa. This neighborhood of narrow streets, narrow passages, small squares and large houses is the most representative area of the old Arequipa. In this place were established Dominican priests in 1538, who built a chapel for the evangelization of the natives of the place, to prepare the ground for the foundation of a new Spanish city. There is a small bridge between the now Church of St. Lazarus and the square with the rest of the neighborhood. Then visit the Plaza de Armas, surrounded by the Church, Cathedral (panoramic view) and various portals. The Plaza de Armas has a beautiful bronze fountain of three plates crowned with the figure of a soldier of the sixteenth century. A character that is called the ''Tuturutu'', who, according to history, was in charge of warning of any new event.

Arequipa Excursions & Tours: Begin your tour of Arequipa and Santa Catalina Monastery on a high at the majestic Mirador de Carmen Alto, located across the Chili River, where you can have a panoramic view of Arequipa. You will continue to the exclusive and traditional neighbourhood of Yanahuara, surrounded by streets built with cobblestones and where one of the flagship churches of Cuzco mestizo baroque was built in 1750.
From here, you will head downtown to visit the Plaza de Armas (undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in its genre), the Jesuit Church of the Compañia de Jesus (1590), see the Cathedral from outside (built in the 17th century and completely rebuilt after several earthquakes) and the Monastery of Santa Catalina (Saint Catherine) an enclosed religious town that remains in use to this day. The monastery belongs to the nuns of the Dominican Second Order. It is built mostly in the Mudéjar style, and is notable for its colourfully painted walls.
The monastery was founded by Maria de Guzman, a rich widow and the tradition suggested that the second son or daughter of a family would enter the service of the Church. This monastery accepted mostly women from upper class Spanish families that would pay a dowry for the admission. The monastery came to house a maximum of 450 people between nuns and servants.

Arequipa Excursions & Tours - Casa del Moral and Juanita mummy tour
Arequipa Excursions & Tours: City tour of Arequipa, also known as "the White City" because of the white volcanic rock, sillar, used in its buildings. See the Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral before visiting the Jesuit Church, where you will be impressed by the beauty of its facade, considered the best example of the mestizo baroque style in Arequipa.
The ancient vestry is particularly beautiful with its cupola and walls covered in murals representing the jungle. The ancient Jesuit seminary is famous for its beautiful principal cloister. See the Casa del Moral, a wonderful example of the baroque architecture characteristic of the region. You will pass through the residential districts of Yanahuara and Chilina, where you will have a magnificent view of Arequipa's countryside and Mount Misti volcano. You will also stop to see the Mummy Juanita at "Santuario de Altura del Sur Andino" Museum in the Catholic University of Santa Maria" in Arequipa. This mummified female was found on Mount Ampato and dates back to the time of the Incas.

Arequipa Excursions & Tours - Colca Canyon Tour
Arequipa Excursions & Tours: Day 1:
Leaving the city via Yura, you will enter Pampa Cañahuas Reserve, an extensive plain where you can see vicuñas, the indigenous Andean camelid that is a national symbol. Then go to Vizcachani, Pampas de Toccra, up to the crater of the Chucura volcano and on to Los Andes Viewpoint at Patapampa (4800 m. a. s. l. ), where the volcanoes surrounding Arequipa can be seen. Lunch will be served in the village of Chivay and in the afternoon you can rest in the hotel or visit the thermal springs at La Calera.
Day 2:
After having a delicious breakfast at the hotel, you will visit the Condor´s Cross to see the Colca Valley (the second deepest canyon in the world, with more than 4 kilometers at its deepest part) followed by an astonishing sight: the great and majestic condor flying only a few meters away. On the way back to Chivay you will pass through the villages of Pinchollo, Maca, Achoma, Yanque and the view points at Antahuilque and Choquetico. Then you return to Arequipa after lunch.

Arequipa Excursions & Tours - Half Day Tour of the Museum of Andean Sanctuaries
Arequipa Excursions & Tours: This excursion includes a visit to the Lady of Ampato or Juanita Mummy at "Santuario de Altura del Sur Andino" Museum in the Santa Maria Catholic University of Arequipa. This mummified female was found on the Mount Ampato and dates back from the Inca times. She was sacrificed at 14 years old to honor the Apus over 500 years ago. She was buried with jewelry, food and pottery. The body of the Mummy Juanita is the best preserved pre-hispanic mommy on the planet. Her discovery amazes the science due to her perfect state of preservation.
