Costa del Sol Excursions & Tours - Alpujarras Tour
Costa del Sol Excursions & Tours: Journey into the heart of the Alpujarras region and experience a way of life that has barely changed over the centuries.
On this half-day guided excursion, you will marvel at the rugged landscape, be enchanted by the picturesque hilltop villages and be able feast on local produce.
The Alpujarras nestles at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and was for years a little-known secret. But thanks to the bestselling book, Driving Over Lemons, it has become a fixture on the tourist trail.
As the coach begins the climb from Nerja, you will learn about local life as you pass rustic villages and dramatic scenery.
We’ll stop at the charming mountain village of Pampaneira, some 3,000 feet above sea level, where it seems almost impossible to build a town. With its steep, cobbled streets and whitewashed houses, it is like an Aladdin's cave, full hostels, bars and a fantastic selection of gift shops offering artisan and high quality souvenirs. Drop into one of the quaint bodegas and try the region’s delicious cured hams, goat’s cheeses and marzipans, all washed down with one of the fruity local wines.
The wild, almost inhospitable countryside of the Alpujarras is one of the few remaining vestiges of a rapidly disappearing Spain. The contrast between the coast and the mountain could not be greater.

Females must find and recognise their host plants among the great botanical diversity of the tropical forests. The survival of their offspring depends upon this and to make them feel at ‘home’, we have brought in plants from their natural habitats in faraway jungles in Bali, Costa Rica, Thailand.

Costa del Sol Excursions & Tours - Museo Picasso
Costa del Sol Excursions & Tours: Admire some of Picasso’s greatest works in the city where it all began with this visit to the Museo Picasso Malaga. Located in the stunning 16th century Buenavista Palace, the museum is home to a collection of 233 pieces by the great master himself with a further 43 on loan from his grandson’s foundation. There are works spanning eight decades of the artist’s highly prolific and successful career.
Ever since it opened just over a decade ago, the Museo Picasso Malaga has become a fixture on the Costa del Sol cultural scene. The museum is just a few hundred metres from where Picasso was born in 1881 and was a long overdue tribute to Malaga’s greatest son. Come and discover works from when he was a precocious 10-year-old unknown in 1891 to 1972, when he had been long established as the most famous painter in the world.
The collection covers Picasso’s groundbreaking innovations as well as featuring the wide range of styles, materials and techniques he experimented with. Discover pieces from his schoolboy days to his take on the great masters and from the vanguardist and dynamic Cubist movement that he spearheaded to his innovative and colourful ceramics.
Among the many works in the museum are the surprisingly conventional portrait of his first wife, Russian ballet dancer Olga Khokhlova, the iconic Acrobat from his Rose Period and the challenging Woman with Raised Arms, where his muse was his new lover, French photographer Dora Maar. There are other less-known pieces such as Mosketeer with Sword, one of his final works.
