Ephesus; Ancient Greek city of Asia Minor, near the mouth of the Menderes River, in what is today West Turkey, South of Smyrna (now Izmir). One of the greatest of the Ionian cities, it became the leading seaport of the region. Its wealth was proverbial. To this Croesus, who captured the city, contributed.

Kusadasi Excursions & Tours: Step ashore to Kusadasi from your cruise ship and step back in time with a visit to the ancient city of Priene, Miletus and Didyma. Priene was an ancient Greek city located just to the north of Miletus in western Turkey. In classical times, it was a holy city and the home of an important temple of Athena.
Priene's ruins include several columns of the Temple of Athena, much of the city wall, a well-preserved theatre and a council chamber. The ruins are next to the modern town of Güllübahce. Priene was discovered by the inhabitants on the Ionian coast. The Ionians first arrived and settled here in the 11th century BC and the city was founded either by Aegyptus of Athens, Philotas of Thebes or Amazon queens.
Miletus was an ancient Greek city on the western coast of Anatolia, near the mouth of the Maeander River in ancient Caria. Before the Persian invasion in the middle of the 6th century BC, Miletus was considered the greatest and wealthiest of Greek cities.

Kusadasi Excursions & Tours: Disembark from your cruise ship at Kusadasi and you will have the chance to step back into another world with a visit to historic Sirince, a charming, unspoilt village of just 600 inhabitants where time has stood still.
Located in Izmir Province about 6km east of the town Selcuk, this pretty old Orthodox village, 12 kilometres from Ephesus and 30 kilometres from Kusadasi, used to be called Cirkince – which can be translated into English as ‘ugly’! Its inhabitants are reputed to have given it this name because they did not want to be bothered by outsiders or share the beauty of their village. Later, according to one version of the tale, it dawned on visitors that it was not ugly at all and they renamed it Sirince (‘pretty’), the name by which it has been known ever since.
The village is blessed with a mountain-top position from which you will be able to gaze down on peaceful vineyards and groves of peach trees. When you have taken your fill of the blissful views you can explore the narrow streets of the village, where the womenfolk gather to sell handicrafts of all kinds, as well as local produce such as olive oil. Another attraction in Sirince that is definitely not to be missed is its wine – this can be sampled at any of the small cafes or in the former municipal school, which has been lovingly restored.
Though Sirince now welcomes visitors with open arms and has learnt to embrace tourism, it has been able to preserve its authenticity and everything its name conjures up.
Meeting/pick-up point: Kusadasi port.

Kusadasi Excursions & Tours: Step ashore to Kusadasi from your cruise ship and step back in time with a visit to ancient Ephesus, in particular the Basilica of St John, the Temple of Artemis and the Isabey Mosque. The Basilica of St John was constructed by Justinian I in the 6th century. It stands over the believed burial site of John the Apostle. It was modeled after the now lost Church of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople.
The Temple of Artemis, also popularly known as the Temple of Diana, was a Greek temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis and was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was located in Ephesus and was completely rebuilt three times before its eventual destruction either during or after the third century AD. Only foundations and sculptural fragments of the latest of the temples at the site remain. The first sanctuary predated the Ionic migration and dates to the Bronze Age. Callimachus, in his Hymn to Artemis, attributed it to the Amazons. In the 7th century BC, the old temple was destroyed by a flood. Its reconstruction began around 550BC, under the Cretan architect Chersiphron and his son Metagenes, at the expense of Croesus of Lydia: the project took 10 years to complete, only to be destroyed in an act of arson by Herostratus. The 14th century ?sabey Mosque is one of the oldest and most impressive remaining examples of Anatolian beylik architecture. The mosque is situated in the Ayaslu? Hills at Selçuk.

The Temple’s dimensions alone (118x60m, slightly more than a football field) would have filled ancient pilgrims with awe, just as they still impress today’s visitors.
Miletos is known as the Hometown of the Olympic Games; the symbol of the Games, a tripod with a flame, originates from the Miletos harbour lighthouse. The town was one of the largest of ancient cities and the birthplace of the alphabet and famous philosophers including the great town planner Hippodomus, father of the grid city plan. The tour will take you to the Theatre, where St Paul gave his emotional address to Ephesus’ elders, then to the Faustina Baths, the Harbour Monument and the Ilyas Bey Mosque.
The tour includes transfers, air-conditioned transportation, lunch and a buffet breakfast enjoying scenic views over Bafa Lake, and all entrance fees, service charges and taxes.
Tours Depart at 8.30am and return 6.00pm.
Please note that museums are closed on Mondays. In the event of museum closures, an alternative will be offered. The itinerary involves a good deal of walking, so comfortable footwear is recommended.

Kusadasi Excursions & Tours - Private Sirince Village Tour
Kusadasi Excursions & Tours: Let us introduce you to authentic Turkish village life on a trip to the picturesque village of Sirince, located 12km away from Ephesus and 30km from Kusadasi.
The town was once called Cirkince, meaning ‘ugly’, perhaps due to the fact that its inhabitants did not want to open its doors to tourists. Nevertheless, the village later changed its name to Sirince, meaning ‘pretty’. Today the village constitutes a unique synthesis of Turk-Greek culture: after the Independence War, Orthodox Christian Greeks who lived here moved out leaving their typical Greek houses. Although these kept their original characteristics on the outside, their inside layout was transformed by the Turks to fit local customs. Some of the most beautiful of these unique homes are open to visitors.
The old Greek inhabitants were famous for their wine making. The Turks who moved here in 1924 re-started wine-making using local fruits, including apple, apricot, banana, blackberry, blueberry, mulberry, mandarin, orange, melon, peach, cherry and strawberry. Taste the results and judge for yourself when you visit.
As the village is located on a mountain, you will also have a chance to admire the view over the impressive vineyards and fruit trees of the surrounding countryside, as well as take in the Islamic culture further by exploring the local Mosque before leaving this pretty village.
Meeting/pick-up point: Hotel pick-up.
This is a half-day excursion. Included: English speaking guide and transportation.

Kusadasi Excursions & Tours - Private Virgin Mary's House Tour
Kusadasi Excursions & Tours: Make a special pilgrimage to the last home of Our Lady with this morning tour to the House of the Virgin Mary, just a few kilometres inland from Kusadasi. The discovery of the home was something of a miracle in itself and is part of its legend. The property is considered a Holy Place by the Catholic Church and has been visited by three popes.
The small stone building is simple inside and has an altar with images of Our Lady and candles. The spring that runs under the house is believed to have healing powers. A collection of canes and crutches left behind by those who were healed by the waters bears witness to its curative properties. There is also a wishing wall where the faithful and the not-so-faithful leave requests. Mass is celebrated every day.
According to tradition, the Blessed Mother was brought to Ephesus by the Apostle John in 37AD after the resurrection of Christ and lived out her final days here. And this was where the trail went cold. But in the early 1800s in Germany, a bedridden nun had visions of the Virgin’s House. Seven decades later, using descriptions based on her visions, two French priests discovered the house in 1891. Within a year, it had become a Catholic pilgrimage site. Archaeologists believe that the building’s foundations may well date from the first century, the time of Mary.
This is tour is a spiritual journey that is open to all, whether religious or not. Its power is such that the house is also a Muslim shrine.

Kusadasi Excursions & Tours - Step ashore Kusadasi: Ephesus visit
Kusadasi Excursions & Tours: Step ashore to Kusadasi from your cruise ship and step back in time with a visit to the ancient city of Ephesus. It is the best-preserved Roman city in the eastern Mediterranean region, and Turkey's top sight after Istanbul, but the Ephesus archaeological site is not the only reason to visit this region.
Ephesus began as an ancient Greek city in Asia Minor, near the mouth of the Menderes River, south of Smyrna (toda’s Izmir). One of the greatest of the Ionian cities, it became the leading seaport of the region. Its wealth was proverbial. The Greek city was near an old centre of worship of a native nature goddess, who was equated with the Greek Artemis, and around 550BC, a large temple was built.
Located on the top of the Bulbul mountain 9km ahead of Ephesus, the shrine of Virgin Mary enjoys a marvellous atmosphere hidden in the green. It is the place where Our Lady may have spent her last days. Indeed, she may have come to the area together with Saint John, who spent several years in the area to spread Christianity. Mary preferred this remote place rather than living in crowded area. The house of the Virgin Mary is a typical Roman architectural example, entirely made of stones. In the 4th century AD, a church, combining her house and grave, has been built.

Miletus was an ancient Greek city on the western coast of Anatolia, near the mouth of the Maeander River in ancient Caria. Its ruins are located near the modern town of Balat in Aydin Province.
