You'll be picked up from your hotel between 8.45 and 9.15 and we'll drive through sugar cane, mango, tamarind and papaya plantations as we head for Quiahuiztlan. ‹br›‹br› This old Totonac city is located on a mountain top and there are stunning views over the Gulf of Mexico and surrounding coastline. Don't miss the ruins of the cemetery where you'll find 43 tombs that are like small-scale shrines. It is believed that the tradition of bringing offerings to tombs on the Day of the Dead began here. ‹br›‹br› Next stop is Zempoala, an astronomical and ceremonial centre for the Totonac people. Here you will be able to explore its many pyramids, palaces and temples honouring the sun, moon, rain and air gods. ‹br›‹br› Finally, we'll visit La Antigua, an old colonial settlement believed to be the first Spanish town in Mexico. Here we'll visit the oldest church in Mexico and the house of conquistador Hernan Cortes. ‹br›‹br› Then we'll head back to the resort where we will arrive at about 4pm. This full day excursion includes hotel pick up and drop off, all transfers, entrance to archaeological sites, sightseeing tour and the services of a bilingual guide. ‹br›‹br› Please note that you will have to make your own arrangements for lunch. We suggest you bring comfortable shoes and clothes, sunglasses and a cap, sun block and extra cash.

Our first stop will be Santiago Tuxtla, where we will go on a guided tour of this important Olmec archaeological site – do not miss the enormous heads carved from single blocks of volcanic basalt. ‹br›‹br› We will also make a brief stop at the world renowned Te Amo cigar factory, where you can see the cigars being rolled. Then we’ll drive on to San Andrés, where you'll be able to admire what is said to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world, the Salto de Eyipantla. ‹br›‹br› Then it will be on to Catemaco, a charming lakeside settlement, where we'll board a boat that will a take us to Islas de los Monos, famous for its colony of macaque monkeys originally imported from South East Asia. ‹br›‹br› Our last stop will be Nanciyaga Nature Reserve, a tropical rainforest notable for its diversity of plants and animals. Here, we will visit a natural spring where you can go for a swim and try a traditional mud bath before returning to the resort where we will arrive at about 8pm. ‹br›‹br› Please note that you will have to make your own arrangements for lunch.

Orizaba, enclosing a full of history, founded in the sixteenth century. In its historic center, we find the “Palacio de Hierro”, building collapsible structure that was brought from Belgium. We visit also the Art Museum and if the cable car is available, we will see a panoramic view of the city.

The Spanish colonial authorities began building the fortress in 1535 with the intention of protecting the city from raids by pirates and buccaneers, and within a century Veracruz had become the most important trading outpost in Mexico, from where ships laden with treasure and commodities sailed to and from Europe.
Your guide will fill you in on all the important events and milestones, explaining what function each section served and regaling you with anecdotes about prisoners such as the witch known as ‘the Mulata of Cordoba’ and lothario bandit Chucho el Roto. San Juan de Ulua Prison had a reputation of being such a hellhole that once a prisoner entered, he never left. After the tour, you have free time to explore the fortress and take as many photos as you wish of this impressive attraction.
